You’ve probably guessed, I am into some dark sh*t. Although, I am not a big fan of cannibalism. And yes, Bones and All is an incredibly graphic film about cannibalism.
I was infatuated with the characters. At first, I thought this movie was metaphorical for addictions, or homosexuality. But when doing a deep dive, I came to understand what’s really going on. This movie, like virtually all zombie movies, is about people working to overcome the darkest aspect of their nature. What does that mean? Well, it means that we as humans being are capable of doing some really terrible things. It’s not something that we are proud of. As a result, we don’t talk about it much. Yet, if we were to study the history books, we would find a litany of heinous acts committed by human beings. These offenders may claim that the voices inside of their head made them do it. Which isn’t entirely a bad excuse. After all, we have thousands of years of our ancestors’ memories encoded in our brains. So much so, that they have become instinctual. And whenever we find ourselves in extreme situations of duress, famine, or even war, we rest on those instincts. Our instincts are a default setting that tells us humans that we must survive at all costs, that we must kill or be killed. And in the most extreme situations, we may have to nibble off some human flesh here and there to survive. Okay, let it be known, that virtually all of these behaviors are incredibly perverse. What do I mean by that? I mean that most people just aren’t going to become cannibals. It simply goes against our nature. Unfortunately, some people do. And these people adopt some of the darkest aspects of our human nature.
